Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has said that he is extremely happy that the club have decided to spend on a well-established player in the form of German international Lukas Podolski. It has been recently revealed in the last few days that Arsenal have agreed a £ 10 million deal with Koln for the signature of the striker. Initially, it was thought that Lukas Podolski was being signed in order to replace Robin van Persie, who is expected to depart the club in the summer. The Dutchman recently scored his 36 goals of the season against Norwich, while he also equalled the record of 30 goals in the Premier league season by legend Thierry Henry.

However, Arsenal were not able to get all three points in their final home match of the season, as a late Norwich strike meant that they had to content themselves with a 3-3 draw. As a result, qualification for the Champions League next season automatically is now out of their hands given that Tottenham and the Newcastle can both move ahead of Arsenal in the table. Robin van Persie, whose contract runs out at the end of next season, was expected to commit his future to Arsenal due to the fact that they appeared certain to qualify for the Champions League. However, it remains to be seen if the Dutchman will commit to Arsenal, but he welcomed the signing of Lukas Podolski.

“He’s a really good player. I know that he has played over 90 games for Germany. He’s an experienced player. He’s been in the game at the highest level for more than eight years now. Great player, he’s a winner. When we were playing against Cologne in pre-season you could see that he’s a winner. Even if it was a friendly, he was doing absolutely everything to win. We are very happy for him to come to Arsenal,” Van Persie told Sky Sports.
