Lukas Podolski’s international career is over
After making over 100 appearances for Germany and scoring over 40 goals for his national side, it has been officially confirmed that Lukas Podolski has decided to retire as he wants to spend more time with his family and at the age of 31, Podolski is not as energetic as he used to be a few years ago.
The amount of appearances that Lukas Podolski has made for Germany has been decreasing as there are other younger players that have been given the chance to step it up and prove their worth at the international stage.
Podolski is a regular starter for Galatasaray as he made 30 appearances for the Turkish club during the season 2015-16 and it seems like the German forward just wants to spend the rest of his playing career focusing on his club and not having many distractions as well as get more time with his family.
Lukas Podolski confirmed his retirement from Germany as he wrote on his twitter account: Thank you fans! 12 years, 129 matches. It was amazing! It was great! It was an honour to be part of the German national team.
The last international appearance that Lukas Podolski made with Germany was during the Euro 2016 when his national side faced off with Slovakia and came out on top with a 3-0 triumph.
Leroy Sane, Mario Gotze, Julian Draxler, Julian Weigl all are part of the younger generation of German players that are expected to step up and guide the national team to success. This is good news for Germany as they are getting a pretty healthy amount of young players and the future is looking bright for them but at the same time, this means that the older generation of players haveto hang up their boots and pass the torch on.
