Lukas Podolski received an emotional goodbye letter from his teammate, Bastian Schweinsteiger before his final international duty on March 22nd, 2017.

The 31-year old made his last appearance for the defending world champions in their 1-0 International Friendly victory over England as the former Arsenal forward found the net at the 69th minute through Andre Schurrle’s assist which sank Gareth Southgate’s men at Signal Iduna Park.

Addressing the letter to Lukas, Schweinsteiger through the German newspaper Welt Am Sonntag, reached out to his friend:

“‘We have been friends for many years, such that rarely happens in life’ – that was the first line of your farewell letter to me then when I was retiring from the national team back then in the Welt am Sonntag, and funny enough I don’t know how better to start mine to you right now.”

Bastian in his letter confessed his invaluable gratitude towards his friend and teammate, Poldoski especially during his retirement.

He thanked him for being there through the good and the bad moments of his career and wished him absolve good luck in his future career. (more…)

Michael Ballack asks Players visiting to China to compare their Salaries

Mar

Michael Ballack reckons that even though there is the possibility of a bumper salary hike for the players if they take the route to China, the players should ask themselves if the salary that they are getting in UK or in any other part of Europe is not sufficient for them.

If it’s sufficient already and the players are capable of having any materialistic luxury in their lives that they want with that salary, then what’s the point of looking for a salary hike? What do they want more money for?

In the words of Ballack, “It amazes you the kind of amounts you get to hear of because it’s far more than the amounts that you generally hear of here in UK and mind you, there is no scarcity of money in UK. Even when I was around I think the salaries were pretty high, even mine was high and I think it’s even higher for the players these days, I am talking about UK.” (more…)

Lukas Podolski’s international career is over

Sep

After making over 100 appearances for Germany and scoring over 40 goals for his national side, it has been officially confirmed that Lukas Podolski has decided to retire as he wants to spend more time with his family and at the age of 31, Podolski is not as energetic as he used to be a few years ago.

The amount of appearances that Lukas Podolski has made for Germany has been decreasing as there are other younger players that have been given the chance to step it up and prove their worth at the international stage.

Podolski is a regular starter for Galatasaray as he made 30 appearances for the Turkish club during the season 2015-16 and it seems like the German forward just wants to spend the rest of his playing career focusing on his club and not having many distractions as well as get more time with his family.

Lukas Podolski confirmed his retirement from Germany as he wrote on his twitter account: Thank you fans! 12 years, 129 matches. It was amazing! It was great! It was an honour to be part of the German national team. (more…)

Jurgen Klopp comments on Liverpool need

Apr

Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool need to have more self-belief if they are to start winning matches against the top teams.

The manager was speaking after the club’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Anfield. Even though the result does not hugely improve Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League, it is a welcome result against a team that is challenging for the title. It once again puts Liverpool in the headlines, as they have affected the title race in a significant manner. Philippe Coutinho came up with the opening goal seven minutes after half-time break.
Opposition striker Harry Kane, who has been one of the best forwards in the division, came up with the equaliser a few minutes later. Rather worryingly, Liverpool took off striker Daniel Sturridge when he clearly represented one of the best chances of the home team coming up with a winner. Klopp later revealed that the decision was purely tactical and not based on any injuries. Speculation mounted during the match that Sturridge had suffered a recurrence of the numerous problems he has been facing in the last two years. Both teams failed to find a winner in the second half and this was largely down to the absence of self-belief according to the German manager.

Lukas Podolski has come under a lot of criticism

Jan

Germany striker Lukas Podolski has come under a lot of criticism for his decision to choose German doctors over those in Turkey.

The striker is currently playing with Galatasaray after having moved to the Turkish club for around £ 1.8 million. He signed a three-year contract with the giants in 2015. The transfer will provide Arsenal with a fee of £ 2.1 million for every year of this contract that he spends in Istanbul. First impressions have been promising for Galatasaray, as he has been able to score eight goals in 16 appearances so far.

The 30-year-old has been able to bring in a decent tally of goals, although it has not exactly translated into league domination for Galatasaray. They are one of the biggest teams in this part of the world, but Galatasaray have consistently been overshadowed by the likes of Fenerbahce in recent years. Now, the threat from Besiktas has grown and Galatasaray wanted to put an end to this by signing a top player like Podolski. After recently suffering an injury, the striker made the decision to return to Germany to seek help from doctors. The club, though, have criticised his decision by saying that he should have stayed with the club’s medical staff.

“What annoys me here is that in some Turkish media also much nonsense is spread about my injury. Some Turkish newspapers lie. Do not listen to speculative rumours about my injury. My treatment is going well in Germany. The doctors and physios here I’ve always worked and they have my confidence. For me these are the best conditions in order to be as fast as possible fit again and come back. This is at the end the most important thing for me,” said Podolski, whose last appearance in the Galatasaray shirt came back towards the end of 2015.

Bayern Munich reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal

Apr

Bayern Munich reached the semifinals of the DFB-Pokal after beating Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night.

It was a very narrow victory and it was achieved only on penalties. After the match, Bayern superstar Thomas Müller said that there was no danger of fatigue for his team. He did admit that Bayern were lucky to go through this tie. The club, who remain on course to winning yet another league and cup double, have managed to lift this title in the last two seasons. A major challenge was seen in the form of Leverkusen, who have shown signs of brilliance this season.

For long periods of the night, it looked like Leverkusen would make use of the home advantage and get an unlikely victory. The path towards the stage of the competition has so far been relatively easy for Bayern, but they were given a major scare by Leverkusen. It has often been mentioned that luck plays a major role when it comes to victories over penalties, but Müller stated that penalties also requires a lot of practice. Bayern remain in hunt for yet another trophy in the form of the Champions League. The German club will be up against Porto in the quarter finals of the competition. (more…)
