Galatasaray Boss Wants Podolski to Stay

Galatasaray manager Jan Olde Riekerink says that he wants to keep striker Lukas Podolski at the club. The German has been linked with a move away from the Turkish outfit with talk about Chinese Super League becoming his next destination.

China’s incredible spending spree in the January transfer window has left many top clubs bewildered at the prospect of retaining some of the best players. The incredible amount of transfer fees and wages being offered by the Chinese clubs have been simply astronomical for super clubs in Europe to handle. Despite huge pedigree, Galatasaray are not immune from the threat.

Podolski may be coming to the end of his career at 31 years of age. His long-standing injury troubles mean that the striker is unlikely to play beyond 35. He has been at Galatasaray since 2015.

This move to the Turkish club has probably revived his career to a certain extent. He has been able to make 40 appearances for the club in the last two years while scoring 16 goals. One of his standout moments for Galatasaray came in the cup game against minnows 24 Erzincanspor. Podolski scored an incredible five goals in the game, thus becoming the first Galatasaray player in more than 17 years to achieve this feat.

There are many fans who think Podolski will end up back at his hometown club FC Cologne – he has mentioned this at times in the past – when or if he does then you can click here and get tickets for his matches! 🙂

Riekerink has taken the occasion to request Podolski about staying with the Turkish club. “Podolski has from the first day been a player who I believed in and liked and I hope that he is staying. We always have an alternative plan. I hope Lukas Podolski will continue with us,” said the manager. It has been a difficult campaign for Galatasaray. The club have seen Besiktas and Fenerbahce dominate the league title, while they are only in the mix for a top three position. After having played 19 games, Galatasaray trail leaders Besiktas by five points.
